DES MOINES, Iowa — Thousands woke up early to partake in the Dam to Des Moines half marathon Saturday morning, and several shared what brought them to the race. In its 46th year, the 2025 EMC Dam to DSM Half Marathon sold out days before the event took place. The route starts at the Saylorville Dam and ends in downtown Des Moines. Runners share what brought them to run the Des Moines tradition. Maya Struhar, a Dam to DSM Runner, said she ran the marathon for her birthday.

DES MOINES, Iowa — The City of Des Moines has rezoned a part of 3rd Street between Court Avenue and Vine Street to be a ride share pick-up and drop-off location. On Friday and Saturdays from 10 p.m. – 3 a.m. ride share apps will direct passengers to be picked up from the ride share zone. Renae Mauk, the Vice President of Downtown Development at the Greater Des Moines Partnership, said that the ride share zone will make court avenue safer for pedestrians.

PERRY, Iowa — JBS USA announced Thursday that it plans to build a $135 million state-of-the-art facility in Perry to process sausages. Dirk Cavanaugh, the Mayor of Perry, said that JBS could bring up to 500 Jobs. “It’s going to start out with a single shift plant, 250 employees, and hopefully within a few years they’ll ramp up to double shift and have around 500 people working there,” Cavanaugh said.

DES MOINES, Iowa — During a tour of the incomplete new terminal at the Des Moines International Airport on Wednesday officials warned that construction could cause delays this summer. “What that means is there may be some delays with aircraft moving, especially when we have multiple aircraft landing at the same time,” said Brian Mulcahy, the Executive Director of the Des Moines Airport Authority.
