1 Introduction Among various abiotic stresses, drought is the most vital adversity that is predicted to increase in frequency and severity and threatens the yield of various crops and plants (Dietz, Zorb, and Geilfus 2021; Slette et al. 2019). Maize (Zea mays L.) is the primary resource for bioenergy and biofuel industries and is a major cereal for humans and livestock. Drought is the most prominent abiotic stress among different adversities and causes severe yield loss.
