Introduction Rhizoctonia solani Kühn, a typical necrotrophic fungus, causes many serious diseases in major crops, including rice, maize and soybean. The rice sheath blight (ShB) disease, caused by R. solani, is one of the most devastating rice diseases worldwide (Cao et al., 2022; Li et al., 2021; Molla et al., 2020).
