LONDON, May 10 (Xinhua) -- Whooping cough is potentially fatal to babies who become infected, many British experts have warned amid what may be the country's biggest outbreak of the disease in decades. Five deaths were reported among infants who developed the disease in England between January and March. According to the latest data published by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), cases of whooping cough continue to increase, with 1,319 confirmed in March.

[한국미디어뉴스통신=신화통신] 최근 발표된 네이처 인덱스(Nature Index)에 따르면 지난해 중국의 우수 연구논문 비중이 처음으로 미국을 제치고 1위를 차지했다. 네이처 인덱스는 세계 유명 학술 전문 출판사인 스피링거 네이처의 산하기관에서 정기적으로 편제하고 발표한다. 유력 학술지 82개에 발표된 논문들을 바탕으로 관련 기관, 국가 또는 지역에서 발표된 논문의 수량과 비중 등에 따라 우수 연구 성과와 협력 등을 반영한다. 네이처 인덱스에 따르면 지난해 1월부터 12월까지 중국 저자의 논문은 1만9천373개로 1위를 차지했고, 1만7천610개를 기록한 미국이 뒤를 이었다. 지난 2014년 네이처 인덱스가 처음 도입된 이후 중국의 '점유율'은 급격히 증가했다. 2021년에는 물리과학과 화학 분야에서 선두를 달렸다. 올해 1~4월 최신 데이터에 따르면 중국은 지구와 환경과학 분야에서도 처음으로 미국을 앞질렀다. 현재 미국은 생명과학 부문에서만 1위를 달리고 있다.
