AbstractHindered ethers are ubiquitous in natural products and bioactive molecules. However, developing an efficient method for the stereocontrolled synthesis of all stereoisomers of chiral hindered ethers is highly desirable but challenging. Here we show a strategy that utilizes in situ-generated water as a nucleophile in an asymmetric cascade reaction involving two highly reactive intermediates, 3-furyl methyl cations and ortho-quinone methides (o-QMs), to synthesize chiral hindered ethers.

AbstractA low-velocity layer atop the mantle transition zone has been extensively observed worldwide. In subduction zones, this layer is widely explained as partial melting triggered by slab subduction on a regional or global scale. However, direct observational evidence is still absent, and the response of the layer to slab subduction is not well known.

1. IntroductionThe world population is constantly growing, and in order to meet the global demand for food and industrial raw materials, the input and consumption of agricultural resources continue to increase. It is estimated that the global annual crop yield is over 3 billion tons, requiring 190 million tons of fertilizers, 4 million tons of pesticides, and 2.7 trillion cubic meters of freshwater resources (accounting for 70% of global freshwater resources) [1].
