A newly renamed, community-based, grant-funded, nonprofit group called the Tuolumne Prescribed Burn Association plans to host a free hands-on demonstration to show how to safely conduct prescribed burns this Saturday at Camp Earnest, 21553 Cedar Springs Road, off Tuolumne Road. The so-called Fire Fest demonstration this Saturday is free for all attendees, and youngsters are welcome to attend and observe.

Stewart, a court support dog acquired several years ago by the Tuolumne County District Attorney’s Office and its Victim Witness Assistance Program, died Friday, April 11, two days after being diagnosed with an aggressive, incurable form of cancer. The golden retriever came to the District Attorney’s Office from Tender Loving Canine’s Prison Training Program in May 2018, when he was 2 years old.

Caltrans plans to reopen Highway 108 to Kennedy Meadows Road by 2 p.m. Friday, a spokesman for the agency said Wednesday. During the past week, Caltrans District 10 maintenance workers cleared snow, trees, rocks, and debris off about 10 linear miles of the highway to get the road open to Kennedy Meadows in time for trout season. The first day of trout season in the Central Sierra, also known as Fishmas, falls on the last Saturday each April, which this year is April 26.

Access to the Tuolumne County District Attorney’s Office on Shaws Flat Road in Sonora will be limited until next week due to an ongoing fiber-optic internet outage caused by the crash involving a vehicle that struck a utility pole last Friday, the DA’s Office said in a statement. The Pacific Gas and Electric Co. pole struck by the vehicle provided electricity and AT&T fiber-optic cable internet service to the DA's Office. Electricity was restored Sunday by PG&E.
