1 Introduction Internal soil erosion starts when fines from the soil matrix are eroded due to seepage forces. It is a significant concern in geotechnical engineering due to its potential to destabilise embankment slopes, trigger landslides and cause environmental damage, thereby posing a threat to human safety [1-4].
