Last week, despite being banned, dog killings by Faisalabad and Jhang’s administrations were reported. This led to the Environmental and Animal Rights Consultants Pakistan (EARC-PK) suing the Faisalabad and Jhang administrations in a contempt of court case. Justice Shahid Karim took notice of the issue and ordered the relevant departments in Faisalabad and Jhang to submit a reply to the court. Now, after hearing their response, the Lahore High Court has issued orders against them.

The government has removed tax exemptions on imported hybrid cars, according to the official budget 2024-25 announcement. These cars will now be taxed at the standard rate, the same as regular cars, depending on their engine capacity and selling price. This will undoubtedly increase prices for hybrid cars in Pakistan significantly, making them a tougher sell. According to the official budget documents released by the government, this was done due to the local production of hybrid cars.

The government has proposed an increase in withholding tax charged on the purchase of new cars, sources have told ProPakistani. Not only is the withholding tax increasing across the board, but cars with engine capacity of under 850 cc up to 2000 cc will be charged withholding tax based on a percentage of their price. Here are the current tax rates and the new tax rates proposed by the government.
