Two blocks from the U.S. Capitol, as the sun set Tuesday, the public began lining up to say goodbye to Jimmy Carter one last time. They stood in the snow on a dark sidewalk that hadn't been cleared, and waited. Some had voted for the former president. Some had come around late to supporting him. Hours before the Washington Spirit took the field Saturday, super fan Angie Kanellopulos was prepping for the game. Kanellopulos, 38, left her Baltimore home at 7 a.m. and headed to D.C. in a car loaded with noise makers. She set up in section 137 and readied the drum she’d use to lead cheers. Meanwhile, other members of the Spirit Squadron — the club’s supporters group — rallied at a nearby brewery.
