1.3. DiagnosisAccurate diagnosis, treatment and maintenance of iron and haemoglobin levels in pregnant women are a work in progress. This is because current diagnostic tests are not nationally standardised [21], and interpretation is problematic in the presence of inflammation and infection [22]. Treatment is dependent on diagnosis; therefore, reviewing the limitations to interpretation of standard tests is necessary to assess their effectiveness.
