GLENDALE, AZ — Glendale residents narrowly voted in favor of one measure and against another related to the construction of the VAI Resort, likely leading to additional delays for the long-delayed mega-project. On Tuesday night, Glendale City Council voted to adopt the final results from a mail-in special election that culminated May 20. While initially too close to call, ultimately, 50.9% of Glendale residents voted against Proposition 401, while 49.1% voted in favor.

PHOENIX — The University of Jamestown announced May 20 it will launch a new pathologists’ assistant master’s degree program in Phoenix starting early next year. Starting January 2026, the two-year, 84-credit program will prepare students for careers in surgical and autopsy pathology as the health care industry continues to face shortages in these fields.

The long-delayed opening of what’s slated to be Arizona’s largest hotel project could face more setbacks, pending the results of a special election this month. Glendale residents have a May 20 deadline to vote by mail on two measures related to the massive VAI Resort project. Proposition 401 asks Glendale voters whether to uphold a decision made by City Council to rezone 10 VAI-owned acres adjacent to the resort that are slated to be used for employee office space and parking.

PHOENIX — Members of the San Carlos Apache Tribe walked all the way from Superior to a federal courthouse in downtown Phoenix for a hearing Wednesday over a planned copper mine that has been working its way through the courts for years. During the hearing, attorneys representing the tribe asked a federal judge to grant a temporary injunction pausing an upcoming land swap from the U.S. government to mining giant Resolution Copper.
