Divers searched the murky waters for a remnant of the past and a reminder of the legacy left by forefathers of black aviation history – the Tuskegee Airmen. A dedicated team of divers spent time over the last few years searching for pieces of a P-39 that crashed on April 11, 1944 flown by 22-year-old pilot Lt. Frank Moody.

    Researchers at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology are developing a humanoid robot pilot “PIBOT,” capable of flying a plane on its own. The PIBOT is capable of understanding manuals written in natural languages and will be able to fly a plane on its own. The project is led by KAIST Professor David Hyunchul Shim and is a joint research project with Professors Jaegul Choo, Kuk-Jin Yoon and Min Jun Kim.

    The FAA published its release, “Close Calls and the New York Times: What You Need to Know,” on Monday morning, shortly after The New York Times released “Airline Close Calls Happen Far More Often Than Previously Known,” outlining recent incidents and data on the incidents from the FAA and NTSB. The FAA responded to the NY Times investigation through a series of tweets and the response article, reminding the public of the work it has done this year to reduce the number of close calls to zero.

    Former Midwest Regional Representative John O. Balsiger flew west on Aug. 11 at age 85, respected and dearly missed by many members of the aviation industry. The NBAA mourned his passing, sharing respect for his long career and impact on the organization and industry as a whole. Balsiger was born Nov. 16, 1937 in Guthrie Oklahoma to Albert Herman Balsiger and Verna Linor (Johnson) Balsiger.
