EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - Last week’s heavy rain left a soggy mess for many people who live and work in Evansville. One northside neighborhood was virtually underwater after inches of rain dropped in such a short time period. 14 News visited the Woodgate neighborhood on Monday. Those we spoke with say it floods every time it rains, although this past storm was the worst.

GIBSON CO., Ind. (WFIE) - Gibson county sheriff Bruce Vanoven, says his office is tallying up a high number of severe domestic violence cases. In just eight months, eight people have been murdered. The first happened in October. It was a missing persons case turned deadly.

VANDERBURGH CO., Ind. (WFIE) - Construction and closures on Boonville-New Harmony road continues in northern Vanderburgh county. As we’ve reported, the most recent closure comes at the intersection of Petersburg road, which has already started impacting local businesses in the area. Residents in the area say it’s causing problems too. Vanderburgh County Engineer, John Stoll, says this project is necessary to improve road safety conditions.

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - A new construction project is underway in Vanderburgh County, and it’s already causing some concerns. The intersection at Old Petersburg Road and Boonville-New Harmony is now entirely closed. Crews are beginning the work to widen the road as part of a reconstruction project. However, at that same intersection sits several businesses, including Hornet’s Nest, a popular restaurant and bar, and one of the only ones in the northern part of the county.

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - The Evansville Fire Department is working to put an end to fires caused by arson in the city. In 2024 alone, 30% of the fires Evansville firefighters responded to were deemed intentional, however, only two arrests were made and cases closed. Now, officials are hoping to improve those numbers.
