Accusations of bias against one of the medical experts involved in the inquests into the deaths of former Ian Paterson patients have been unfounded. The disgraced former surgeon had made claims against one of the members of the Multi-Discipliary Team, MDT, of medical experts who are involved in the inquests. Ian Paterson said that emails between two of them showed one in particular, Professor Mike Dixon, was bias.

Five years ago today a damning report was published saying there had been "wilful blindness" when it came to allowing disgraced surgeon Ian Paterson to operate on patients. Half a decade on, it seems that little progress has been made on the recommendations suggested for public safety. Ian Paterson treated more than 11,000 patients in the NHS and private hospitals in the West Midlands between 1998 and 2011.

After 135 years of treating patients on site on Dudley Road, Birmingham City Hospital officially closed its doors today. Work began at 5am to move the remaining 110 patients over to the new Midland Metropolitan University Hospital, just 1.7 miles away. Patients were moved one-by-one by ambulance with the final one leaving just before midday. That patient was given a special farewell as he is one of the hospital's own; Dr Pankaj Kumar has worked at the site as a Specialist A&E Doctor for 18 years.
