I’m writing this to you from a train before dawn. It’s pitchy black outside, so much so that I can only see myself reflected in the window. It makes me think about the road I’m travelling right now, as I circle back to this writing, having left it alone for so long. I’m sorry I’ve been a stranger in your in box. I’m here now to wish you the best of the season, and to express an intent. For the next part of the journey.

I was talking with a friend the other day about the value of simplicity. I find it so hard to keep life simple. My tendency always is to overcomplicate. I need to remind myself of the value of simplicity and find ways to slow down my inclination to consume, to accumulate, to layer things up one over another. The way I do it now is through creativity, creative acts everyday. The picture here is of a flower frog. It’s a vase designed to hold a posy spread across a wide opening.

So often life comes at us thick and fast and there seems to be no let up. Flurry is everywhere.

Yesterday, on my continuing health kick inspired by the change in season, I went swimming. I did, in the end, two and a half lengths. Was it worth it? The circumstances were that I was in my local lido, and the reason for the sharply curtailed swim was a sudden downpour accompanied by thunder. I’ve never swum in the rain before, and had half a length to enjoy the strangeness of the sensation before I became aware of the lifeguard blowing a whistle at me and pointing to the exit.
