I actually miss the call. My phone doesn’t ring even though it’s sitting in my lap and when the notification comes through, my stomach plummets. I buy myself some time, starting in on a bowl of grapes and allowing myself to be distracted, at least for a few minutes by the episode of Cobra Kai my sisters are absorbed in, on Netflix. But eventually, the nauseous curiosity wins out and I quietly head upstairs. Time to rip the bandaid off. I’ve only been waiting for this news for a month, after all.
