A life sciences property in Santa Monica has sold for $11 million. The asset, at 1756 Cloverfield Blvd., contains a 15,770-square-foot building. Brentwood-based Cypress Equity Investments purchased the property from Encino-based HSJ Properties. Fred Aframian of Kidder Mathews represented the buyer while Charles DeSantis, also of Kidder Mathews, represented the seller. The property was built and owned by the same family since 1958.

South Bay native Allen Sanford has been in love with Redondo Beach since he first started surfing as a kid. More recently, though, he said he has noticed “fewer and fewer places to hang out,” as well as a lack of changes to the waterfront. One day, while paddleboarding, he saw two vacant buildings – formerly a Ruby’s and a Chillers – and the idea “dawned on me” to create California Surf Club at the site. The location, which opens this week, is a members-only club and a public restaurant.

A Sense of Home, a Hawthorne-based nonprofit which aims to prevent homelessness by creating homes for those aging out of foster care, has made several leadership announcements. Ken Grouf was named the organization’s chief executive. Meanwhile HGTV star Drew Scott, known for his work on the “Property Brothers” and a number of other shows, has joined the nonprofit’s board. Georgie Smith, ASOH’s founder, is transitioning to president of the organization.

Shirley and Walter Wang – the chief executive and president of Westchester-based plastic pipe maker JM Eagle Inc. – have agreed to give $25 million to UCLA Health to create the UCLA Walter and Shirley Wang Center for Integrative Digestive Health. The center will offer help to those living with gastrointestinal disorders. The center takes a holistic approach, looking at disorders in a variety of ways. For the Wangs, the decision to donate to UCLA was personal.

The Tikun Olam Foundation of the Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles has gifted $25 million to create the Stein Tikun Olam Early Connections Program at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. The gift, from Mindy and Gene Stein, is CHLA’s largest donation ever dedicated to early childhood mental health. The program, which is being led by Marian Williams and Melissa Carson, will provide hospital-wide infant-family mental health services.
