In a speech in Port Talbot later, Mr Farage will outline how next year's Welsh parliament elections will be the primary focus of his party. It is "difficult" to give a "cast iron guarantee" that lives won't be lost because of a coal tip disaster, the deputy first minister of Wales has told Sky News. Nearly 60 years since the Aberfan disaster, which killed 144 people when coal waste slid down the side of a mountain into a school, £130m has been invested in securing waste left behind by coal mining operations. Earlier this year, the Welsh government said up to £600m could be needed to secure coal tips across the nation.

The first minister of Wales has revealed she is expecting more money from the prime minister for rail infrastructure in the country. Speaking exclusively to Sky News, Eluned Morgan hailed HS2 as "unfair" and said she is "expecting to see some uplift in terms of rail infrastructure and financing". A UK government source said the government would "signal a direction of travel" on transport in Wales in the coming days, and the issue will be a "priority" in the spending review in the spring.

Wales is expected to receive an extra £1.7billion from next April as Rachel Reeves has claimed her Budget will provide the largest-ever funding increase in the history of devolution. In what was Labour's first Budget in Westminster since 2009, the Chancellor announced a block grant of £21billion for the Welsh Government for the 2025/26 financial year, which includes £1.7billion of consequential funding.
