DANVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) — A Danville police officer lost his battle with cancer Friday morning. Officer Aaron Sparks passed away surrounded by his family, friends and fellow officers in Lexington. Sparks was a veteran of the U.S. Army and an 8-year veteran of the Danville Police Department. Danville police and a host of other emergency responders will escort Sparks home to Danville on Friday.

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WTVQ) — The date for the start of Steven Sheangshang’s trial, the man accused of killing a Scott County deputy, was set in Scott County court Thursday. A judge determined the first day of Sheangshang’s trial will begin on Feb. 24, 2025. Sheangshang appeared in court via Zoom from the Bourbon County Jail, where he was moved to from the Fayette County Detention Center.

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) — A Frankfort man is accused of shooting and killing his fiancée while she was in bed at his mother’s home on Wednesday. According to Frankfort police, officers were called to a home in the 200 block of Corral Court for a report of a shooting around 3:30 a.m.Once there, officers found Devin Ellis with “at least one” gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Stephen Rife, Ellis’ fiancée was arrested and charged with murder – domestic violence.

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) — Some of the around 40 Guardsmen injured in the drone attack on a Jordan military base on Jan. 28 include soldiers from Kentucky. A press release from the National Guard Bureau confirmed at least 41 Guardsmen were injured in the Tower 22 attack, the military desert outpost in northeast Jordan that killed three Fort Moore, Georgia-based Army Reserve soldiers.
