    It’s time for the yearly plunge into Lake Fenton. The annual Polar Plunge is set to take place on Saturday, Feb. 1 at the Fenton Moose Lodge 430.  “The Polar Plunge is for the Special Olympics,” said Pat Peters, area 13 director of Special Olympics Michigan. “There’s actually 20-some-locations (of Polar Plunge) within the state of Michigan.” Funds raised through the plunge are given to the athletes of Special Olympics Michigan.

    Tyrone Twp. — The Tyrone Township Board of Trustees voted to adopt resolutions of censure of Supervisor Greg Carnes and trustees Dean Haase and Chris Ropeta on Tuesday, Jan. 7.   Board members and the public expressed concerns regarding a letter delivered to planning commissioners, officials potentially violating the Opens Meetings Act, and potential misuse of township power.

    The Mass Transportation Authority’s (MTA) Fenton trolleys are closed for the winter season. The last day to ride the trolleys was Friday, Jan. 4.  “The trolley season ended for the winter and will be back for the spring with new upgrades and refurbishments,” said Tessa Stickel, communications coordinator for the city of Fenton. “The trolleys will be fitted for new fuel systems and maintained to begin for the 2025 year.” The Fenton trolleys ran on two routes — north and south.

    Glenn Noble, 92, of Holly, former Rose Township supervisor, trustee and planning commissioner, died on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2024.  Noble was born on July 28, 1932 in York, Pennsylvania to E. Russell Noble and Mabel Elliott Noble of Ontario, Canada. He died with his beloved wife, Sally, of 68 years and children by his side, according to his obituary.  Noble has an extensive record of public service in Rose Township.

    The Linden Library in the Linden Mill is set to close on Saturday, January 18.  The city of Linden is set to renovate the mill. The mill houses the city’s library and the Linden Mill Historical Society and Museum. The museum closed in early September.  The Linden Library is one branch of the Genesee District Library.  “GDL will vacate the building so those renovations can take place,” said David Conklin, GDL’s Library Director.
