Doctors have been working for several years to ensure patients can make decisions about when they want to stop treatment incases where they can no longer decide for themselves. For example, if they are brain dead and on life support. However, a draft law drawn up by the Ministry of Social Affairs surprised medical professionals at the end of last year. The legislation included a clause saying a declaration would only be considered if doctors deemed a medical condition irreversible.

The results are shown in the latest Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC) test, which assesses adults' skill sets. It looks at how 16-65 year olds understand written texts, how effectively they can apply mathematical knowledge to everyday tasks, and how well they handle problem-solving. The first wave of the PIAAC survey was conducted in three separate rounds between 2011 and 2018, covering 39 countries, including Estonia.

Amateur ornithologist Sven Hõbemägi has been banding birds for some two decades already. This week, he managed to band a European robin (Erithacus rubecula, or punarind in Estonian) in an oak grove in Rakvere — a bird that should actually still be down on the Mediterranean coast.

Tegelikult oli neid ka rohkem, lihtsalt üks sattus võrku rõngastamiseks.
