    Myelodysplastic syndrome (now also known as myelodysplastic neoplasm) (MDS) are a group of heterogeneous haematological neoplasms associated with cytopenia, morphological dysplasia and clonal haematopoiesis.1 Prognostic scoring systems for MDS have evolved over the last three decades. The International Prognostic Scoring System (IPSS),2 introduced in 1997, comprised haematological (haemaglobin, platelets, absolute neutrophil count and bone marrow blast percentage) and cytogenetic parameters.
