I have a new crush. It started with an appreciation of her geeky, perfectionist in Derry Girls, was groomed by her snarky appearance as Penelope Featherington in Bridgerton and has been cemented by her appearance across numerous magazine covers over the past month. I am officially obsessed with Nicola Coughlan and my only sadness is that she wasn’t oozing glamour in every newspaper when I was growing up. Today marks the launch of Bridgerton season three.

“Womens’ Equality Has Gone Too Far” shouted the angry headline. “Half of Britons Agree”! To be fair I have added the exclamation mark but it was definitely there in tone. The piece looked at a global survey from Ipsos and concluded that the population of the UK had had enough of all this women’s lib madness and wanted out. On reading the headline I felt all of the energy drain out of me, surely we couldn’t still be arguing this rubbish? But as I read on, I realised something - I was being gaslit.

Like around 6.5million people in the UK, I spent last Friday night peaking from behind my fingers at the finale of reality TV show, The Traitors. If my Twitter was anything to go by, we all knew what was going to happen and we were all desperate for a last minute intervention that would stop it. But the intervention didn’t come and so 6.5million people watched a 19 year old girl trust a 22 year old boy with £95,000, and lose it all. We Can't Do It Alone is a reader-supported publication.
