It probably went unnoticed that the Hazzetta took a hiatus for the visit of Manchester City. Largely down to Christmas’ busy travelling, schedule and consuming excess made it difficult to afford the time required. However, there’s part of it that relates to the first words of this article. The jump from grief to relegation is gigantic. Never should the emotions conflate with the results part of football. However, relegation does follow a similar path. There can be intervals of hope.

You know it felt so nice for a week or so without the melodrama. In fact this preview was originally written at length about how the lack of drama produces a dangerous apathy. The season is idling along, and a lot of shoulder-shrugging is occurring. Leicester City have yet to find their niche when it comes to style or identity. The idea in employing Enzo Maresca last season was to establish a new footballing principle and there are attempts at adopting the orderly style now.

While the final four minutes play out to the hint of a Leicester winner, the support is loud and fervent. This continues on the streets outside Portman Road and onwards to Ipswich railway station. Once composed, two thoughts are considered. That last minute equaliser was so good and such an adrenaline rush, but City were for long stages so ragged and unorganised across the full game.

Instead it's been replaced by the resignation that the same errors and mistakes are being made again, as showcased in the losses to Forest and Manchester United. This dread is further enhanced by the history of the Leicester City hierarchy being reluctant to change until it's the only thing left staring them in the face. The second half performance last Friday evening has eaten away and spent far too much consuming me. It was the horrors we feared played out.
