This conference was the first time Reform UK’s supporters had gathered since the party secured more than four million votes - and five MPs - in July’s election. It was a chance for officials, volunteers and its politicians to celebrate. And celebrate they did. Day one of the conference culminated in what one Reform source promised would be “the biggest drinking session in British political history.” It featured karaoke from Nigel Farage - hilarious or horrifying depending on your view.

Former US President Donald Trump has repeatedly promised Nigel Farage he'd visit Clacton, his UK constituency, if he was ever elected to Parliament, according to an associate of the Reform UK leader. The Republican Party nominee has apparently repeated the pledge several times since first meeting Farage in 2016.

The few remaining Conservative MPs are arguing about what form a leadership contest should take, never mind who should be leader. Each leadership contender has their own agenda about how long the contest should last, who should vote and in what form the vote should take place. Some want to go long and use October’s party conference as a hustings event for members, with a leader installed by the end of the year. Others want a much shorter contest with a new leader in place by the Autumn.

When Nigel Farage entered this election he said it was the start of a five-year mission to reshape the right of British politics - either by destroying or merging with the Conservative party. In getting four Reform UK MPs elected overnight, that mission is on track. His parliamentary party may be small, but the four Reform men in the House of Commons will be noisy and disruptive. At the eighth attempt, Farage is an MP. He is out of retirement and his long political career enters a new chapter.
