The loss dented Brighton's hopes of qualifying for European football next season and left them in 10th position in the Premier League on 48 points, now just two ahead of Brentford in 11th. Mbeumo opened the scoring in the ninth minute before Danny Welbeck clawed a goal back for Brighton just before halftime.

Since taking the helm from Steve Cooper in late November, Van Nistelrooy has won only two of 14 league matches and has now lost 11 of the last 12.

Great second half at the London Stadium after one of the worst opening 45 minutes I've seen. Evanilson with two goals to split the points. Trying on a different reporting hat for Reuters: https://t.co/G2UchG9VFP
