Marsha de Cordova, who is registered blind, said pedestrians were at risk of being injured as people are often forced into the road to navigate the obstacles. Ms de Cordova told the House of Commons 95% of people with sight loss have had to walk in the road due to vehicles parked on pavements. The figure rose to 99% for people in wheelchairs and riding mobility scooters. MPs heard wheelchair users, people with pushchairs, and those with visual impairment were among those affected by the problem.

Pensioners, family businesses and farmers are paying the price for Labour’s “economic illiteracy”, Victoria Atkins said, as she urged the Government to commit to “a full and proper review of this dreadful policy”. Treasury minister James Murray said the Government’s plans to impose 20% inheritance tax on farms worth more than £1 million is a “fair approach”, with current relief on business and agricultural assets “heavily skewed towards the wealthiest estates”.
