TOKYO/NAGOYA, Japan/NEW YORK -- Honda Motor and Nissan Motor are among the Japanese automakers building supply chains for recycled plastic, Nikkei has learned, to make their vehicles greener and comply with expected new European regulations. Plastic is an essential material in automobile production, used in bumpers, interior components and other parts. Under a 2023 proposal by the European Commission, at least 25% of a new vehicle's plastic would have to be recycled.

NAGOYA, Japan -- Toyota Motor is in the unusual position of having to turn down orders for half of its major models at dealerships in Japan due to production backlogs stemming from stubborn pandemic supply restraints. NAGOYA, Japan -- Toyota Motor has built at its California logistics site a hydrogen production facility that can deliver enough fuel for more than 200 of its Mirai fuel cell cars a day. The Tri-gen system at the Japanese automaker's base at the Port of Long Beach is operated by U.S. hydrogen technology firm FuelCell Energy. It will use renewable biogas from organic waste to generate about 1.2 tonnes of green hydrogen a day, providing fuel for incoming Mirais.
