At least 300 jobs are expected to be cut at a mining contractor in the Upper Spencer Gulf owned by Whyalla Steelworks owner, GFG Alliance. The ABC understands management for mining contractor Goldings met with workers today – and will meet with night shift teams tonight – to inform them that around 350 jobs have been lost. This announcement comes as the company brings forward its planned ramp-down of hematite mining in the Middle Back Ranges.

The state electorate of Frome in South Australia's mid-north has been renamed Ngadjuri ahead of the next election. The Electoral Districts Boundaries Commission's decision was unveiled as it set the final electoral boundaries for the 2026 vote. Labor MLC Reggie Martin advocated for the renaming, based on concerns about former surveyor-general Edward Frome's involvement in acts of retribution against Aboriginal people following what is known as the "Maria Massacre".

The South Australian government wants to change rules to give the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) powers to order companies to bring generators back online during peak demand. The state energy minister says a delayed interstate energy infrastructure project has reduced grid reliability over summer. The opposition says the move shows a "total lack of planning" by the state government, but the SA Premier says the government is acting to "prepare for all eventualities".
