This was the reference for 'The Howard Indienne', which he has used, with its coordinating border, for the bed hangings and curtains in the Admiral's Bedroom. Andrew MONTGOMERYTowards the end of the 19th century, Castle Howard, designed by Sir John Vanbrugh and begun in 1699, was decorated almost top to toe in designs by William Morris.

In the drawing-room, the curtains are in Claremont’s ‘Milano’ linen to match walls in a bespoke stippled glaze by Hesp Jones & Co. An early-19th-century mirror over the chimneypiece is framed by Staithes Group paintings and pale plaster lamps by Viola Lanari. Tallboy Interiors re-covered the sofas in Sibyl Colefax & John Fowler’s ‘Seaweed’ khaki linen (left) and Lee Jofa’s discontinued ‘Maisie’ (right).

A couple of years on from ‘finishing’ our house (i.e. the builders leaving) I’ve still got a list of things I’d like to add, tweak or recover. Obviously some jobs are bigger than others and some more pressing than others. This is my list of the things I’m coveting right now, few a necessity but things that will spark joy or smarten us up.
