Forest Research, with support from Portsmouth City Council, are collecting views about local trees, woods and forests in Portsmouth. An online questionnaire asks residents about trees in their local area and across the city, what sort of trees they’d like to see more of, how they think trees in their neighbourhood are managed and much more. It’s an opportunity for people to share their views on the treescape in Portsmouth and what more they’d like to see.

Room One, an information and support service for autistic people, has moved to a bigger location in Portsmouth. The space – now at Spithead Resource Centre, 55 Montgomerie Road, PO5 1EB – is a one-stop shop for autistic and neurodivergent adults aged 18+ in the PO1-PO6 area, their family and friends, and the professionals supporting them. The team offers information and advice about living independently, socialising and referrals to other services if needed.

People living in Paulsgrove are invited to take part in a community workshop, to help develop ideas to make the area an even happier and healthier place to live. The ‘Healthy Living in Paulsgrove’ event will take place at Paulsgrove Community Centre on Saturday 18 May, 9.30am-12.30pm. Tea, coffee and bacon baps will be available for free, and everyone is welcome to attend.

A tree survey will take place this summer to help identify the diversity of trees in Portsmouth. Surveyors and volunteers will be given the task of counting and labelling the types of trees within 250 sample plots throughout the city. Forest Research, which is part of the Forestry Commission, will undertake the survey on behalf of Portsmouth City Council, which has commissioned the survey to learn more about the city’s treescape.

GP practices in Portsmouth offered patients almost 1.1 million appointments last year, with more appointments being offered with a GP than the year before. According to the monthly NHS England ‘Appointments in General Practice’ data, 70,000 more appointments were offered to patients between January and December 2023 in comparison to the same period in 2022, and 20,000 more appointments were offered with a GP.
