A permanent memorial for Madeline "Maddie" Soto now stands in a park in Saint Cloud. It's the city where Soto, who went missing in February 2024, was found. Investigators allege her mother's boyfriend killed her after abusing her for years. The memorial is a bench in Lakefront Park. Its inscription calls Maddie a Beacon of hope and says she is forever loved and forever 13.

Dry conditions spur fires, burn bans around central Florida

A brush fire broke out in Volusia County Tuesday. The County described the fire, dubbed the Powerline fire, as being West of New Smyrna Beach. By late Tuesday night, the fire had spread to 270 acres and was 5 percent contained. In a video from Chopper Two, you could see the massive plumes of smoke from the fire. Getting closer, you could see the flames and burning trees. A firefighting helicopter flew overhead, dumping buckets of water on the flames.

A Kissimmee woman says she's been left fearing for her life after her daughter's killer was mistakenly released from jail just months into his life sentence. Christina Grayson says her daughter Delila was dating Kathan Guzman. She says the two met at Poinciana High School and ultimately moved to Georgia. In 2022, when Delila was just 19, Guzman was arrested for strangling her during an argument and even confessed to the murder. He was convicted in October of 2024.

University of Florida students gather to watch national championship

Students at the University of Florida packed into the O'Connell Center Monday night to watch the Gators take on the University of Houston. According to the university, some fans had to be turned away from the watch party, with the arena filling with 11,355 people. That topped the arena record for paid attendance, which was 11,255 people. Fans were able to watch the game on screens throughout the arena. Some students camped out overnight to be sure they could get a spot inside. Others waited hours.
