Master Deputy Bradley Link was shot and killed in what law enforcement has called an ambush in unincorporated Eustis. 2 guns stolen in Tavares car break-ins

Tavares police are searching for the people responsible for breaking into multiple cars in a Tavares neighborhood over the weekend. They may have gotten away with some valuables, but most concerningly, they took two guns. Keith McGhee, who lives in the Elmwood subdivision in Tavares, told WESH that when he got out of his truck the morning of May 25, he found it in disarray. "Every door, the glove box, the sun visors, all my stuff just all over the truck," he said. The thieves took anything of value.
Foster parent accused of sexual battery in Osceola County

A foster parent in St. Cloud is being accused of sexually abusing two girls who had been in his care. Forty-year-old Daniel Lamppin was taken to the Osceola County Jail Tuesday night, facing 24 counts of sexual battery by a custodian, according to the Osceola County sheriff. The sheriff said Lamppin worked as a manager at Chick-fil-A on South Orange Blossom Trail, and as a volunteer youth pastor at Connection Church on Generation Point in Kissimmee.

Like a lot of communities, for Lake County, small businesses are at its heart. "Oh, they're essential," said Meg Brew, director of economic development for Lake County. "Our downtown could not survive without the small businesses," said Marie Aliberti, president and CEO of the Lake Eustis Area Chamber of Commerce. According to the Small Business Administration's 2024 profile for the state of Florida, more than 50 percent of employees in Lake County worked at small businesses.

With Epic Universe set to officially open Thursday, businesses in the area are hoping it will bring more customers with it. Pizza Xtreme has been a spot to get a slice on South Kirkman Road for a long time. "I have been here for 24 years this November," said owner Ann Marie LeFler. She says she's seen the area change quite a bit. "Just with traffic and customers and regulars in the last 23, 24 years. It's been crazy," she said.
