An Expose on Right Wing Meme PagesWhile scrolling on the app one day I came across a meme. This one:Now, ignoring the weird racism, the comments were full of people complaining that women get a history month. One of the top comments said that “Men only get one day if they are fathers,” as someone who doesn’t like people being misinformed, I kindly replied that Men’s Mental Health Awareness month exists. The problems with Favreau’s remake of the Disney classicMany live-action remakes are coming out recently. I’ve written about this before (and I will no doubt do it again), but I want to zoom in on this film, Jon Favreau’s 2019 remake of The Lion King, in particular. Favreau was invited to work on this project after the success of his live-action remake of The Jungle Book in 2016, but his version of The Lion King’s development is interesting and highlights several things wrong with the industry.

Why don’t we progress like others online? Trying to improve in any capacity is difficult. Improving skills or otherwise. It is so hard. I have so many things I want to improve about myself. My art skills, dance skills, mental health, body, I want to crochet more, I want to write more consistently. All these improvements I want to make, they weigh me down. I feel like I will never be good enough for myself. I’ve incapacitated myself with the pressure I’ve put on myself to change.

Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice…. We’ve been held hostage by remakes and sequels of classic movies for years now. The Lion King (2019), Jurassic World (2015), Night At The Museum: Kahmunrah Rises Again (2022), Disenchanted (2022), the list goes on and on. This year many more are coming, including Beetlejuice 2. Beetlejuice 2 is slated for release on September 6th, 2024. Directed and produced by Tim Burton, starring Jenna Ortega along with the original cast.

Art has always been a competition. Whether it being in France, trying to get into a salon, or racing to a thousand followers on instagram, there has always been an inherent competitive edge to art. But I do feel like in recent days many artists have been creating art purely for other people. Basing their art on what is popular in the algorithm. Which I believe is extremely harmful. Art is a form of expression, to create something. For fun, or to put your feelings on a canvas.
