Thermomix Australia has paid $79,200 in penalties over alleged claims that its products were endorsed by the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). It allegedly made the false or misleading advertising claims on its website about one of its all-in-one appliances, and a cordless vacuum and mop. But no singular product can be approved for the varying needs of all NDIS participants, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission said.

Disturbing details have emerged about the death of a young man in custody at a Coles supermarket on Tuesday. The young man, who died after being pinned to the ground by police, was a 24-year-old Warlpiri man from Yuendumu, a remote community about three-and-a-half hours northwest of Alice Springs. The young man, who lived with a disability, had been in Alice Springs for a number of years, and was under a guardianship order and on an NDIS plan.

Music legend and longtime member of iconic R&B band Kool & the Gang, Michael Sumler has died aged 71. He was killed in a highway car crash at Mableton, in the US state of Georgia, on Sunday, the city Mayor Michael Owens said. “We are saddened by the death of musician Mike Sumler. ‘Chicago Mike’ contributed so much to the music and entertainment communities. His style and energy added flare and excitement to Kool & the Gang for decades,” Owens said.

An alleged predator faced court on Tuesday over what the Australian Federal Police described as “sickening” sexual abuse against children as young as six. The 68-year-old Darwin man allegedly directed the sexual abuse of young children while watching the crimes streamed live from another location. He has been charged with two counts of sexual intercourse with a child outside Australia, two counts of sexual activity with a child outside Australia, and one count of possessing child abuse material.

A jogger was violently attacked while on a popular scenic trail about 10.15am on Monday. The 59-year-old woman was allegedly grabbed from behind by a teenage boy and choked unconscious while jogging down Oak Hill on the Centenary Trail at Bonner, in the northern tip of the ACT. The 138km trail, popular for walking and cycling, runs along the NSW border, through urban and rural Canberra.
