A delivery driver left an “elderly gentleman” on the ground with a broken arm after pushing him so hard he was thrown through the air. What led to the April assault was the victim’s objection to the driver parking over a fire hydrant. On Thursday, the driver, Steve Hansen, appeared in Wellington District Court, where he was sentenced to 175 hours of community work and ordered to pay the victim $1000.

The former head of the Ministry for Pacific Peoples (MPP) has apologised for the misuse of taxpayers’ money spent on a fancy farewell when he left his position and for a welcome event at his new one. Leauanae Laulu Mac Leauanae, who is now the chief executive at the Ministry for Culture and Heritage (MCH), was on leave before his farewell from the MPP, and had no hand in the decisions for the event.

A man who was allegedly driving drunk when he struck two pedestrians in a hit-and-run now faces a manslaughter charge after a young mother died in hospital. Casidhe Maguire, 28, was critically injured after being hit by a car near Te Papa in Wellington around midnight on June 18. She died three weeks later. Today, a 23-year-old man appeared in the Wellington District Court charged with manslaughter in relation to her death.
