    RACINE, WI — At least one Racine restaurant is adjusting what it serves customers because of the rising cost of eggs. Alfonso Arroyo, owner of Rosie’s on 18th Street and Taylor Avenue, told Racine County Eye photographer Mark Hertzberg that he has switched to medium-sized eggs because of increasing prices on eggs in general. “Prices are five times what we paid last year,” Arroyo said.

    RACINE, WI — The Racine Police Department is asking for the public’s help apprehending the suspect(s) involved in a shooting that injured a man on Jan. 23. The incident took place around 9 p.m. on Jan. 23 near the intersection of Albert Street and Memorial Drive. Sgt. Alicia Mitchell confirmed the victim is a male but did not give their age. He was taken by Flight for Life to Froedtert Hospital for treatment.

    RACINE, WI — The Racine chapter of the NAACP has elected Walter Williams as its new president on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2024. “I’m honored to become the voice of the Racine chapter,” Williams stated. “It’s something I don’t take lightly.” Williams outlined five key priorities for his presidency:Reestablishing the presence of the Racine chapter to serve as an advocate for underserved communities and championing social and economic equality for people of color.

    RAYMOND, WI — The Raymond School Board at its Jan. 20, meeting approved 51 open enrollment seats for the 2025-2026 academic year, sharp increase from the six approved at this same time last year. Currently, Raymond welcomes 123 open enrolled students every day, and the budget for the next school year increases that number by 20, to 143. These additional students would add $180,000 to the district’s revenues.

    RAYMOND, WI — An independent audit of the Raymond School District for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2024, has uncovered significant financial mismanagement. The result is a fund balance so low, the district needs a three-year, $2.25 million referendum plus a healthy influx of open enrollment students to avoid steep cuts to staff and programming and to avoid larger class sizes.
