Stocks continued to rise after President Trump detailed cuts on U.K. tariffs and expressed high hopes for talks with China. "Better go out and buy stocks now," the president said. "This country will be like a rocket ship that's straight up."All three major indexes were up over 1% in midday trading. The WSJ Dollar Index strengthened, rising 0.5%.

California’s teacher pension fund is preparing for the possibility tariffs will prompt the international community to rapidly unload U.S. assets, Calstrs investment chief Scott Chan said. If levies lead countries to trade with each other over the U.S., they may become less interested in holding dollar-denominated assets, said Chan, who manages the $350 billion portfolio of the nation's second-largest pension fund.
