When it is so hot the chickens are laying hard-cooked eggs, you know it must be summertime in Texas. The stretch of triple-digit high temperatures will continue this week in the metroplex, with little chance of rain to bring relief any time soon. The temperature on Wednesday is forecast to hit 102 degrees around mid-afternoon, but with 52% humidity in the atmosphere, the “feels-like” temperature will be somewhere between 105 and 107 degrees.

On Thursday, as outdoor temperatures soared to 100 degrees, Dallas Park and Recreation Board members met to consider a staff recommendation to close some of Dallas’ aging community swimming pools due to budget constraints. As reported by The Dallas Express, interim City Manager Kimberly Tolbert has directed that each City of Dallas department cut its budget by 6% for the 2025 fiscal year, with the exception of the police and fire departments, which are facing 3% cuts.

When the weather is too hot for outdoor activities, North Texans can enjoy a plethora of entertainment and artistic events in air-conditioned venues, including museums, theaters, and music halls. Now through August 25, visitors at the Amon Carter Museum of American Art can view Moving Pictures: Karl Struss and the Rise of Hollywood, an exhibit celebrating the work of the famous photographer and cinematographer and his innovations and contributions to the film industry in the early 20th century.

Heavy rain caused flash flooding Monday morning along a major freeway in Dallas, halting traffic and causing lengthy delays. Between 1.5″ and 4″ of rain fell in the metroplex during a three-hour period. Construction barriers along I-635 caused water to accumulate on the freeway, particularly in the westbound lanes between Mesquite and Dallas. I-635 at Garland Road was completely shut down for some time after two vehicles became stranded in the roadway.
