That’s what the Oklahoma City Thunder need to win the franchise’s first championship since 1979 when they were the Seattle SuperSonics. The Thunder reached the NBA Finals for the first time since 2012, beating the Minnesota Timberwolves 124-94 Wednesday in Game 5 of the Western Conference finals.

This time, the New York Knicks dug themselves a hole too big. Two days after they clawed back from a 20-point deficit to pull out a much-needed victory, New York could not overcome its fourth quarter deficit Tuesday night as the Indiana Pacers took Game 4, 130-121, to secure a commanding 3-1 series lead in the Eastern Conference finals. The Indiana offense did go cold for a stretch in the middle of the fourth quarter, hitting just one field goal during a span of more than 5:35 of game time.

The New York Knicks are still alive. The Knicks erased a 20-point, second-quarter deficit, chipping away in the second half, and scraped past the Indiana Pacers on Sunday night in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference finals, 106-100. New York rode a massive fourth quarter from Karl-Anthony Towns, who scored 20 of his 24 points in the final period.

NEW YORK — It was fitting that overtime would be wild, too. To cap what was a thrilling game, the Indiana Pacers stole Game 1 of the NBA Eastern Conference finals Wednesday night, scraping past the New York Knicks in an overtime that saw eight lead changes, 138-135. The Knicks would get a pair of 3-point looks inside the final seconds of overtime — one from Jalen Brunson and one from Karl-Anthony Towns — but both clanked wide. The fact that we got here in the first place was improbable.

The Oklahoma City Thunder did what they needed to do. They beat the Denver Nuggets 125-93 in Game 7 on Sunday, advancing to the Western Conference finals for the first time since 2016 and for the fifth time since the franchise moved from Seattle to Oklahoma City in 2008. The top-seeded Thunder will play the sixth-seeded Minnesota Timberwolves for a spot in the NBA Finals, starting with Game 1 on Tuesday in Oklahoma City (8:30 p.m. ET, ESPN).
