When I stumbled upon a shrine early on in Assassin's Creed Shadows, my fate was sealed. Among the Torii gates and statues, a pack of black Akita puppies rollicked about on the ground, as their big fluffy mother doggo moseyed on over to greet me. I've just met a dramatic washing machine in Date Everything that has the most incredibly rich voice. It's like velvet, and my heart is all aflutter as I listen to the sudsy fellow wax poetic about being "awash in the scurryings of life". I'd never thought about the plights of being a washing machine, but I've also never met one that looks like a handsome acrobat with long soapy tresses, and a well-toned physique.

When the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct aired last week, Kirby Air Riders surpassed my wildest and most unlikely wish going into the showcase. Since I eagerly awaited the official reveal of the rumored Mario Kart 9 (that would turn out to be Mario Kart World), I secretly hoped that Kirby would be revealed as a new racer. As unlikely wishes go, it's right up there, and I knew going into the livestream, it would never happen.

Donkey Kong Bananza is a new 3D platforming action adventure that's set to bring the famous tie-wearing gorilla to the Switch 2 this year. Officially revealed towards the closing of the Switch 2 April Direct - which at least gave us an in-depth look at Nintendo's shiny new-gen console - the debut trailer showed off lush open zone levels and a decidedly fuzzy-looking DK as he smashed his way through different environments.

As soon as a pixelated scene of a green-haired girl riding a broom came into focus during the Nintendo Direct March 2025 showcase, I audibly gasped. I instantly recognized the style of the "spellingbinding adventure" on screen, and shouted "Witchbrook" before the title even entered the picture.

Witchbrook is a magical new RPG from Eastward and Wargroove publisher Chucklefish, and it's officially set to arrive this year. The witchy life sim has been in the works since 2017, and the last time we had a major update was almost 5 years ago. Assassin's Creed Shadows is home to a world that's begging to be explored, and that's exactly what I've been spending most of my time doing in the RPG. When I'm not searching for stylish looks and decorative trinkets, I'm soaking in the views and capturing scenic shots in photo mode. In fact, I got so swept up in doing anything but the main story to begin with, that I was well over 20 hours in when I finally found my way to unlocking Yasuke. I'm sure I'm not alone in that.

In Assassin's Creed Shadows, I come across an opportunity I can't ignore. An unsuspecting guard stands at a perilous high point, keeping watch for would-be intruders like me. There's no railing or obstruction in front of him, which makes his position perfect for what I plan to do next. I stealthily crouch down as Yaskue and begin to creep up behind the unfortunate archer, whose fate is about to be mercilessly sealed.
