Think up a suitably quirky name for their new mascot red squirrel for the chance to win a family adoption for a year, a certificate and a red squirrel goodie bag.

The Isle of Wight is a nationally important stronghold for red squirrels and they are a draw for tourists, some of whom have seeing one is on their bucket list. Local businesses often use them in their logo or name, but the charity, Red Squirrel Trust, does not benefit. If it wasn’t for the work of the Red Squirrel Trust, raising the profile of red squirrels, this might not work as well.

To celebrate Red Squirrel Week, Starting 2nd October, Wight Squirrel Project is launching a new initiative to encourage people who walk in a woodland regularly to note down squirrel sightings. If you walk your dog in a particular wood, then it will be a doddle. Just note the date and how many squirrels and it’s really easy to fill in either a Word document or email spreadsheet both downloadable from the Website. Then just email to every six months – job done. Your reward?
