Andrew Dewing discovered acollection of freshwater gold clams - Corbicula fluminea –when he was inspecting the room of departing guests at hislodge in the central North Island village ofŌwhango. Federated Farmers is backing a members’ bill aimed atstopping regional councils from factoring in the negativeeffects of climate change in consenting decisions. ActParty MP Mark Cameron, who submitted the bill, saidcouncils’ efforts against climate change were“hopeless” and creating a “productivitycrisis”. Geoff Bracken has fond memories of takingcare of the Clayton Rd land over the 12 years he has livednext door. Rotorua Lakes Council declared it surplusland in 1982, and two years later revoked its status as areserve. It sat vacant for decades, occasionally usedfor grazing, and in 2022 the council decided to seek apartner to develop it.
