Credits from durable CDR projects that sequester emissions for centuries or longer are expensive, selling at hundreds or even thousands of dollars per metric ton. The sector operates at a tiny scale—there is such a dearth of capacity that businesses that want to claim the environmental benefits of these projects often need to sign forward offtake agreements for credits that will be issued years from now.
