    My Western Canon salon series with Interintellect continues on 11th July with Goethe. We are discussing The Sorrows of Young Goethe. Second Act was mentioned in David Brooks’ Atlantic essay about late bloomers (an excellent piece) and featured in Business Insider. I wrote about Keir Starmer as a late bloomer. In ‘The Dandy School’, written in 1827, William Hazlitt complained about the trend for society novels, which were written merely to inform the public about how to be a gentleman.
