An anti-theft device prevented thieves from stealing a pickup truck from a Georgetown home earlier this week. Halton Police say overnight Sunday/Monday, the window of a Toyota pickup on Barber Drive was smashed. According to police, the thieves cut the steering wheel to remove the steering wheel lock, but were unsuccessful. They left without the truck. No suspect descriptions are currently available. The investigation is ongoing.

Christoph Summer had tasked his real estate agent with finding a property. Two weeks later, he got a call. His agent had found a location that seemed ideal for Summer’s desire to build a retirement community. Summer had lived in Milton at one time, but all he remembered about Georgetown was that it had a Pizza Hut. However, it was a community that was in need of the type of project he envisioned. There was a catch, though. Summer would have to act fast.

There were some tense moments in the final minutes of the Skills Ontario Competition. As the team from Stewarttown Middle School gave their animation one last look, the sound was suddenly gone. And then they closely watched the clock as their presentation, which could not exceed two minutes, clocked in at exactly 120 seconds. In the end, the presentation they handed over to the judges did have sound – a cable had been knocked loose as the team was viewing it for the last time.

This article first appeared on HaltonHillsToday May 27. Plans to build three apartment buildings next to the Georgetown GO station are nearing final approval. During its Monday meeting, Halton Hills Council endorsed a staff recommendation for the necessary zoning and Official Plan amendments that will allow one eight-storey and two 12-storey residential buildings at 1 Rosetta St. The decision will be ratified at the next council meeting on June 16.
