DUNMORE — A focus of Onix Rodriguez’s latest training camp was improving his footwork to throw the left hook. The results of the hard work paid off Saturday. The southpaw from Scranton’s Irish Boxing Club repeatedly strung Cameron Reid with left hooks over the three-round amateur bout to earn a victory on points in front of 650 at War of the Warriors at the Holiday Inn Scranton East. With Rodriguez trying to establish the jab in the first round, Reid slipped in and landed a right to the body.

For his latest boxing card, Doug Long is bringing back a classic theme. The promoter, who always stresses that his events are much more than just boxing, is next set to host War of the Warriors on April 12 at 7 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Scranton East in Dunmore. Long first used the theme in 1995 after seeing it when current Scranton Irish Boxing Club head trainer Gene Reed competed on a card in South Africa.

DUNMORE — Louis Paris is one step closer to winning a third district title and delivering a fourth-straight crown for Scranton Prep. The senior ran for 132 yards and a touchdown and threw for a score as the top-seeded Cavaliers bested No. 4 Mid Valley, 40-21, in a District 2 Class 3A semifinal Friday at Dunmore Veterans Memorial Stadium. Scranton Prep will host Wyoming Area in the district championship game Nov. 15.

DUNMORE — Dustin Jimenez did not have to look far to find his opponent. Evan Fitzgerald was right in front of him, coming forward for three rounds. The National Golden Gloves champion from Rochester, New York, was able to sit back, pick his spots and earn a win on points over Fitzgerald in a 145-pound bout in front of a sold out crowd of 650 in the main event of Team Ireland Returns Club International Boxing 3 at the Holiday Inn Scranton East on Saturday.

CLINTON TWP. – Lackawanna Trail knows what it means to play games in November. Opponents get tougher, games get tighter and stakes get higher. On Friday, the Lions passed their first test. Isaac Ryon and Demitrius Douglas combined for 290 yards rushing and five touchdowns as top-seeded Lackawanna Trail pulled away from No. 4 Nativity, 47-20, in a District 2-11 Class 1A subregional semifinal at Lions Pride Stadium. The Lions will host Tri-Valley in the subregional final Nov.
