A Durban City FC player, Sinamandla Zondi, died after collapsing ahead of a Motsepe Foundation Championship (MFC) match against Milford FC at Chatsworth Stadium on Tuesday night. Zondi, 22, reportedly collapsed in the warm-up ahead of the match. He was attended to by paramedics before being rushed to hospital. The defender, however, did not survive. The match went ahead but was suspended at half-time, with Milford leading 1-0.

Young South African cricket star Dewald Brevis has been called up to play for the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Brevis, 21, makes his way to India as a replacement for the injured Gurjapneet Singh. IPL organisers announced on Friday that Brevis will stay with Chennai for the remainder of the 2025 event. Brevis will join CSK for INR 2.2 Crore (around R4.8 million). He has previous IPL experience, having played 10 games for Mumbai Indians between 2022 and 2024.

The Cheetahs have signed a deal with star UCT Ikeys wingerNtokozo Makhaza. Makhaza, 23, was a standout for the Cape Town students in their44-21 win over Maties in Monday night's Varsity Cup final in Stellenbosch. Hescored a brace of tries and slotted all his kicks at goal for a personal haulof 32 points. Makhaza was duly awarded with the Player that Rocks accoladefor the final and also scooped the Varsity Cup Player of the Year and BacklinePlayer of the Year awards.
