    North Korea confirmed for the first time it had deployed troops to Russia, with state news agency KCNA on Monday reporting that Pyongyang's soldiers helped Moscow reclaim territory under Ukrainian control in the Russian border region of Kursk. Concerns about the sector have hammered the Seoul-listed shares of the world's largest memory chip maker Samsung, and largest memory chip supplier SK Hynix. Officials have now stepped up to provide more cover for the economically crucial industry by announcing an extra $4.9 billion will be pumped into it through 2026.

    South Korea's former president Yoon Suk Yeol denied he had committed insurrection Monday, as the impeached leader appeared in court on the first day of his criminal trial over his martial law declaration. Yoon was formally stripped of office earlier this month, after being impeached and suspended by lawmakers over his December 3 attempt to subvert civilian rule, which saw armed soldiers deployed to parliament.
