In his current role, Kavulich is spearheading Gov. Josh Shapiro’s ambitious rethinking of the state’s approach to elder services – the centerpiece of which is a 10-year strategic plan,“Aging Our Way,” which launched in May 2024.

Maureen Madden leads the chamber’s bipartisan efforts to address the needs of the commonwealth’s fast-growing geriatric population. Madden, who has represented her Monroe County district since 2017, is an older Pennsylvanian herself – she turned 65 in December – and, having lost both parents to dementia, has a first-hand perspective on the exigencies of caregivers.

She would highlight a dashing young Christopher Plummer; Julie Andrews’ ringing bell of a soprano; a score by the iconic Jewish musical team of Rogers & Hammerstein; and the seven adorable von Trapp kids do-re-mi-ing their way through alpine landscapes. For me, as an adult, the top reason is the film’s portrayal of resolutely anti-Nazi Austrians.
