It was a perfectly sunny, almost-80-degree day, so we sat outside, sipped ice coffees, and shared a chopped salad with charred shrimp and avocado. From our table, we watched friend group after friend group meet up on the street and greet each other with exclamations of how amazing! they all looked.

Where once stood Pratesi and Cartier are now fashion-Substacker favorites Toteme (829 Madison Ave.) and Khaite (828 Madison Ave.).

Although “not a department store” is spray-painted across its façade, the new 55,000-square-foot Printemps, the first from the 160-year-old French chain to be opened in the U.S., is, for all purposes, a department store (just one that hired a graffiti artist to indicate otherwise). It’s no surprise Printemps wants to avoid the D-word, but opening anything of this magnitude is a big bet.

On Saturday, I met up with friends for breakfast and then went to a holiday antiques market hosted at Tanner Fletcher’s very charming studio, where they had lots of just-kitschy-enough gifts and lace-adorned leather gloves. From there, we went uptown to the Extreme Cashmere pop-up and tried on extremely soft scarves in earthy colors.
